brewers associationの定義の続き

以前の投稿ではブルワーズアソシーエーション（以後、BA）の”craft brewer”に関する定義をご紹介しました。今回は次に続く、補足の部分をご紹介したいと思います。ここで初めて”craft beer”という言葉が出てきます。

まずは本文を引用します。

  • Craft brewers are small brewers.
  • The hallmark of craft beer and craft brewers is innovation. Craft brewers interpret historic styles with unique twists and develop new styles that have no precedent.
  • Craft beer is generally made with traditional ingredients like malted barley; interesting and sometimes non-traditional ingredients are often added for distinctiveness.
  • Craft brewers tend to be very involved in their communities through philanthropy, product donations, volunteerism and sponsorship of events.

ちゃんと訳すと長くなるので、それぞれ要点だけを。
・クラフトブルワーは小規模だ
・クラフトビール、そしてクラフトブルワーにとって大事なのは「革新性」だ
・クラフトビールはモルト、ホップという伝統的な原料で作られるが、違いを出す為にそうでないものを使うこともある
・クラフトブルワーはコミュニティに慈善活動や寄付などで関わる傾向にある
・クラフトブルワーは顧客と繋がっていけるように独自のアプローチを行う
・クラフトブルワーはそうでないブルワーとは関係なく、品位を保つ
・10マイル以内にクラフトブルワーが暮らしていないアメリカ人は少数派

要するに、自主自立をし、革新的なビールを作り出すクラフトブルワー。カッコイイ！！って感じなのだと思います。

でも・・・なんだか良く分かりませんね。いまいち具体的にイメージがつかないというか、なんというか。大義名分と言いますか、こういう定義などにはキレイゴトが必要なのでしょう。つっこみどころ満載なのは夢を語っているから仕方ないと思われます。そりゃ、草創期とは時代も環境も違いますし、色々と矛盾も出てきます。（それぞれに対するいちゃもんや矛盾についてはまた別途書きたいと思います。）「なるほど。うーん、じゃ、アレはどうなんだ！？」という疑問・反論に真正面から答えられない。キレイゴトだから、理想だから、夢だから、現実世界には存在しないということなのかもしれません。

ビールはお酒だから、そういうロマンがあって良いと思います。ちょっと緩く考えて夢に思いを馳せるくらいが粋なのであり、本気出して矛盾を否定するのは野暮ってもんです(笑)
